About Raglan Fish

Located at 92 Wallis Street in the laid-back surf town of Raglan, Raglan Fish is the kind of spot people drift toward when they want fresh seafood without any fuss. The place has that classic fish and chips takeaway feel, yet it still manages to create a relaxed atmosphere where locals and visitors happily settle in for a casual bite. With outdoor seating available, it is easy to enjoy the fresh coastal air while digging into crispy seafood and golden chips that suit the easygoing vibe of the area. The restaurant keeps things simple in the best way possible, focusing on satisfying portions, quick service, and food that feels comforting after a day near the beach or exploring town.

One thing that stands out about Raglan Fish is how flexible the experience feels. Some people stop by for a quick takeaway meal, while others choose to dine in and take their time with a plate of hot seafood and a cold beer. The menu style fits perfectly with anyone looking for a fast but flavorful option, especially when cravings for fish and chips hit hard. Small plates and quick bites make it easy to sample different items without overcomplicating the meal, and the addition of coffee and alcoholic drinks gives the place a more relaxed social feel than a standard takeaway shop.

The atmosphere stays friendly and unfussy, which honestly matches Raglan itself. You can walk in wearing beach clothes, grab a table outside, and feel comfortable right away. The onsite service keeps things moving smoothly, and the casual setup makes it a convenient stop whether you are grabbing lunch on the go or slowing down for an easy dinner with friends. The smell of freshly cooked seafood drifting through the air only adds to the experience, making Raglan Fish feel like one of those dependable local spots people return to again and again.

We had a lovely lunch sitting outside on a beautiful day—the view here is absolutely spectacular! Nothing beats seafood with a nice view! The undisputed star of the show was the deep-fried flounder. It is incredible value for money as they serve the entire fish; it was exceptionally fresh with silky, flakey meat. If you’re a fan of oysters, the deep-fried ones were large and juicy (though they offer fresh ones too). A few things to note for a better experience: we did wait over 30 minutes for our food. While the quality made it worth the wait, the kitchen speed could definitely be improved. We also found the tarakihi to be quite average compared to the stellar flounder. Lastly, the number of flies around the outdoor seating was a bit of a distraction—some citronella candles or fans would go a long way. Overall, a great spot for fresh fish with a view! Will visit again for sure.

Really busy on the the evening we tried to purchase fish and chips. Nominal closing time was 7 pm, but it was well after this that we got our order of chips and various preparations of gurnard. The meal was good, though tempered by the fact that it took 30 mins to order and 90 minutes to prepare. Price of going somewhere that is overly popular I guess

Really tasty and great location. Kind of pricey but that's because the portions are huge - wasn't able to finish a half scoop of Kumara chips and 1 fish between 2 people! The queues can get quite long so best to order ahead.

Delicious fish and chips! The food is freshly made and deep fried. The staff members are happy and eve gave us extra sauces! My only complaint is that the chips were slightly soggy, maybe because they weren’t that busy that day so it was left out a little bit. But it still tasted good regardless. Anyways, Raglan Fish is a must visit if you are around ⭐

If you come to Raglan, you must must must have Fish n chips in the most classic kiwi style at the Best Fish n Chips place in the world. And that's big from me, as I was brought up in and around Leigh, which also has an amazing fisheries culture. But just doesn't have a place like Raglan Fish

Really good crumbed tarakihi and kumara chips. Also had the grilled snapper which was so fresh and tender. Cool old fashion styled place in a great location.

Located at the end of the pier, raglan fish and chips is an institution I've heard. Prices seemed steep til you get your order. The portions were large! Each fish order came with 1 large piece and 1 medium piece of fish. Our half scoop of kumara chips was more than sufficient. Batter was crispy and the fish was cooked perfectly. Highly recommend.

Nice place to enjoy classic seaside fish and chips. We ordered 2 fish burgers for $16.50 each, 1 scoop of Beer Battered Chips for $6.30, 1 scoop of Regular Chips for $5.30 and 2 pieces of gurnard for $10.50 each. This is quite an expensive place for fish and chips however considering the rising price of Fish and Chips these days it’s nice to get a quality product for the price paid. Good atmosphere, friendly staff, could do with more seating considering the size of the area.
